          Celestial Season are back

          From the band’s website:

Twenty years after the formation and ten years after the split up, Dutch doom metal band Celestial Season comes to life again. They will be performing their influential second album “Solar Lovers” , starting spring 2012.

Core members Olly Smit (guitar) and Pim van Zanen (guitar) initiated this project because they feel that this is the time to bring the songs of their groundbreaking record to life, in the way that they truly deserve. Soon after the release of “Solar Lovers”, the band would undergo a drastic metamorphosis with the arrival of a new singer and the stylistic transitional “Sonic Orb” EP, thus leaving their doom metal sound behind.

Pim van Zanen states: “Now is the time to give “Solar Lovers” a second chance on stage. All of us are challenged to play the album live, top to bottom and make it sound its best.”

In addition to this, Celestial Season will perform their haunting rendition of Ultravox’s “Vienna” live on stage for the first time in the band’s existence.

In order to give a boost to the sound of “Solar Lovers”, they have recruited former Orphanage vocalist George Oosthoek. The rhythm section consists of Jacques de Haard and Rob Snijders, both from the band’s 1998-2001 lineup. Just like on the original album, Jiska ter Bals plays violin. Elianne Anemaat (cello) rounds out Celestial Season’s characteristic string section.

This promises to be a unique and moving live experience. Performances will be on selective dates in 2012-2013.

          Also, from Roadburn:

‘Twenty years after the formation and ten years after the split up, Dutch doom metal band Celestial Season comes to life again. To give an impression of what Celestial Season sounds like in 2011, they re-recorded the song Decamerone from the album Solar Lovers:

US funeral doomsters Evoken are preparing to enter the studio in the upcoming week to lay down their next full-length album.

Profound Lore Records issued the following update: “It has been agreed upon that we will be releasing the next full-length album from legendary doom metal behemoth Evoken. This could very well be their glorious moment within their repertoire. The band’s fifth full-length album will be released sometime spring 2012.”
